Divorce and Taxes?

Robert T asked:

My sister is going thru a divorce, and her husband is being a d*ckhead. She asked him for the amount of capital gains in the jointly owned stocks and other assets sold, so that she could pay her fair share of taxes. He took all of the paper records, and she does not have all of the account numbers. His unsatisfactory response was, “Go to hell.” He is withholding information she needs to complex her 1040 return, so my sister filed for an extension. What can she do (legally) to get the information she needs to file her taxes? Who should pay the tax penalty if any?

  3. Does she have a laywer, ? and have her go to a CPA and let them do a reshearch and sign a form to give them power of attorney, that will let them ask the IRS any question on taxes…and if any thing she can file a Innocent spoucal that she is unware of the taxes and free her from any penialty this the CPA should know about…but there is lots of paper work but well worth it…..good luck…

  4. Your sister definitely needs to ask her lawyer about this. If she has a tax accountant, he/she would know what to do, also.
