“FCO Final Court Dismissal – Failed to Appear” – Are the parties no longer married?

Anonymoussss asked:

In a friend’s divorce record online, through the county court, it states “FCO Final Court Dismissal – Failed to Appear”. He is very much for the divorce, however, his ex is the plaintiff, and was the one scheduled to appear. When a divorce case is dismissed, does that mean the parties are no longer married? Also, on the site, it says “Case Disposed 8/12/08″. Please advise. Thanks!

Settling out of court divorce?

Nanie asked:

When two people settle divorce out of court does that mean they aren’t legally divorced? Would there be a record of this if you wanted to see it. I have been talking with a guy on facebook and he says he is divorced now for 7 years. I have checked all court houses in the area he lives and there is no record. He now tells me they settled out of court

Help! Porn found friend’s husband’s computer – they’re in the middle of a divorce?

Charlie L asked:

So, a friend is going through a divorce and has found porn on her computer, obviously there by her husband. He’s a principal of an elementary school. How can she make a record, or what should she do, to have this as backup in the divorce? He has already said that he will blame everything on her, and has threatened her with blackmail if she says anything. Your help is appreciated….

I believe in freedom of the press, but what can be done about these problems?

athorgarak asked:

If one were to read the surrounding documents and records, one would find that freedom of the press was originally and ONY intended to allow a free discourse that included criticism of the government. This came about due to the oppression that always started out by silencing the dissenters.

What can and more to the point, should be done about agenda driven, misleading and outright falsehoods that are presented in the “press”?

This freedom is not absolute! a newpaper can be held criminally liable for insurrection, incitement and other crimes, because they are NOT covered by the intent of freedom of the press.

So what should be the punishment for outright lies?
Manipulated polls that are intended to trick and mislead?
Attempts to sway instead of report?

I realize that no person can fully divorce his/herself from a personal view, even reporters, but the twisting of the “news” is way beyond any slight coloring of the theme!
Thoughts?
David, good points all, but you , yourself, missed a very inportant distinction:
Freedom of the press is distinct, and different that freedom of speach.
Works of fiction are presented as such, making your point moot.
As for lies, you surely know that lies are not protected, in any legal way. in fact they are punishable in court with sanctions of freedom (jail time), fined or both.
Libal, and defamation of character are both crimes and they are ’speach’
ditto, false statements to the police, filing a false report, etc…
ALL of our freedoms were, again, originally designed as freedoms from-, not freedoms to-.

Court Order for Military Records?

Natalie M asked:

I am currently trying to subpeona the military records for a prior active duty Marine in regards to a divorce. Although I know I need a court order signed by a judge to obtain said records, are there other forms that should be submitted with the court order? I have a SF 180 form, but I am not sure if it is neccessary. Also, is there anyway to get his service number since I have his ssn? If anyone can answer any of my questions it would be grteatly appreciated. Thanks!
Thank you both very much for your help. My boyfriend actually just finished his active duty with the USMC on the 6th of this month and said that typically the service number is his ssn, but with either a one or zero in front…how would I know whether it was the former or the latter? The Marine’s records that I need finished up his active duty in 2004…so it is pretty recent. Also, would it be best to send my court order to his last duty station or Military Personnel Records in St. Louis?
